The process is tricky, but we have dedicated guides and resources to help you choose the best journal for your research. Below is one recommended approach.

I've Written It, Now Where Do I Publish It?

  • JANE

    • Generates a list of journals with the best Article Influence scores based on the theme of your research.

    • Paste your abstract or title directly into the search box to get started.

    • Located in the "Metrics and Where to Find Them" box.

  • Ulrich's Online

    • After you find a journal in JANE that interests you, Ulrich's will tell you if the journal is Open Access (little lock icon).

    • When you click a journal title, scroll down to "Abstracting and Indexing Databases."

    • Located in the "Getting Published" box.

Article Processing Charges and Open Access: Read and Publish Discounts

  • Lists publishers that UTMB has relationships with and how much of the APC charges we waive.

  • Explains how to submit your article for publication depending on each publisher.

In short:

  1. Start with JANE on the "I've Written It, Now Where Do I Publish It?" guide to get options for publication with high Article Influence scores.

  2. Check Ulrich's to see whether the journal is indexed well (not predatory), Open Access, and who the publisher is.

  3. Double back to the "Article Processing Charges and Open Access: Read and Publish Discounts" guide to make sure the publisher is covered by one of our agreements.

  4. Check the publishers listed on the guide to get specific directions on how to submit your article for publication.
